“Mom, when you were a little girl – what did you want to be when you grew up?”
The honest answer – a MOM. Sure I thought about law enforcement, law school, teaching… but what I always wanted was to be a mom. I never imagined that the subtitles of that would be staying home or homeschooling. In fact there was a time I went to school full time & worked & was a single mom. It was so hard.
Today I past by the mirror (with toothpaste smeared on it) & caught a glimpse of myself in the middle of the day “moming.”
This is me on most days. Messy hair, mascara stained-baggy eyes, wrinkles on my cheeks from years of laughter, a baby on my hip, a pile of laundry needing washed, a couple baskets needing folded & put away, mirrors needing wiped, a hallway of toys & shoes scattered all over, & the list goes on & on. I read stories, wipe tears (& butts), kiss owies, snuggle babies, breakup fights, & so much more. It’s nothing glamorous, but this is by far the best job ever!
Being a mom is hard. I am so out numbered & I have ages 0 to nearly 16 to keep up with. Most days they totally kick my butt, but this kids – THIS is what mommy always wanted to do – raise each of you.
